Almost Break

Why is it going to be so cold today? Can the weather just start warming up? Probably not. Well, I think that today will be a pretty good day. Not really. I have a midterm today and another one tomorrow, so I will be studying, taking a test, and then studying some more. Sounds like a fun life to me. Again, not really. However, there is the ever present hope of spring break in approximately one day in six hours. Although I don't have a ton planned over vacation, the point is that it will be a break from school. Unfortunately, it is only one week, but one week is better than nothing by far. I like the fact that I will not have a lot of homework except for edited a few papers and doing some statistics homework. On average though, I'll have less homework per day which is always good. What am I going to do with all of my free time? Probably enough so that it won't be free time anymore. I always tend to do that. I have free time, but then I fill it up just as quickly. So, wish me luck on my test today! Luckily it is all multiple choice.

Spring is Coming

I think that all of this snow is ridiculous. Apparently, we are supposed to get a lot more snow over the weekend and next week. That is also ridiculous. Anyway, you can listen to the news if you want to hear that stuff, so that is not why you're here. You're here to listen to me talk about something that I'm avoiding talking about right now because I am still thinking about what I should write. I think I'm going to write about how I was very excited to see my homework level slowly dropping. Along with this snow, I think that the homework is also ridiculous. There are a lot of ridiculous things in the world apparently, and another one will be if the Phillies do not win the World Series this year. Of course, we can't talk like that because we know they're going to win the World Series anyway, so it is pointless to speculate otherwise. I think that this team has the best pitching they have ever had, so even though the Bank is a hitter's ballpark, that does not discount the fact that these pitchers will do better than anyone else even if they do give up more runs than they would if they played in a giant ballpark because the opposing pitchers have to come to Philadelphia as well. It will be a fun year I have no doubt!

Roof Falls Down

First off, how about that video of the Metrodome roof collapsing? If you haven't seen it, here is the link. This weather is a pain, but at least here in Vermont we haven't had one like the one that recently hit the Midwest. I also know that it is only going to get worse here in Vermont. Nevertheless, I hope it delays as long as possible. I was also shocked to see that the Vikings and Giants game got snowed out, but I guess that was good that they weren't in there when it fell. Could you imagine the chaos that would have ensued if there had been thousands of people in that building? Crazy stuff. So now that game has been moved to Detroit. They should be able to get that one off, and I heard that if you had tickets for a game in Minnesota, you could arrive in Detroit and get preferred seating. However, that is quite a drive from Minneapolis to Detroit, so I wonder how many people will actually do it. I wouldn't do it for either of those teams. Maybe I would do it for the Phillies, but I highly doubt we'll have a snowed out game this summer.

Crazy Weather

Well, Cleveland was not a happy place last night. Not only were they beaten severely, but it was at the hands of Lebron James. I don't really love or hate the Cavaliers, but I wish they would have put up some kind of fight. Anyway, I would rather write today about the insane weather that we have had. 90 mph winds were seen in some places in Vermont. That is essentially unheard of. It makes me glad that it happened during the winter sports season. Of course they would have canceled the game, and I was visualizing trying to pitch a baseball and then having it fly off to the left with the entire crowd all of a sudden becoming the target. Or, punting a football and having it blow backwards instead of forwards because of a severe gust. Of course, I was not in Cambridge where the 90 mph winds were, but from the wind that I was in, I think that either of these situations could have happened except for the baseball would not go that far I guess. Now, I think that all of the rain that accompanied this storm is over. We have snow coming which at least brings with it the winter sports season.

Written Yesterday but Posted Today.(Ran Out of Time)

I have an idea. I'm thinking that all of this snow needs to go away right now. Some people, like my sister, want this crazy stuff, but I must say I disagree. Sure, snow has brought us super athletes like Shaun White, but really, I think that he could stick to his skateboard and be just as innovative and amazing. Okay, I think I have made a convincing argument. The only thing that snow has going for it is that it looks nice at Christmas. Therefore, it is my platform that on maybe December 23 that white stuff is allowed to fall from the sky and temporarily cover the earth. Then, on January 1, it will all melt away. Nobody will be any worse for wear because nothing important happens that week. Anybody who is traveling for Christmas will probably be there before December 23, and a lot of people take that week after off from work, so it will not cause any inconvenience to anyone. Of course, I'm not opposed to snow on the mountain tops since I'm never on the mountains, so the Vermont economy will not be ruined for the winter. There, you have my platform for seasons.

End of Luck

So here's my idea. In crazy weather like we are having right now, a baseball game would have a rain delay. Normally, I'm not a fan of rain delays simply because they drag the game out later. However, here's my vote for today. I think that midterms should have rain delays. I have a midterm in the History of China and Japan at midday today, but a little rain delay would be nice. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this weather is going to change much for a while, but what has changed is the Padres chances of making the playoffs. With a 1-0 loss last night, it looks as if they are all but done. However, I guess technically they have a prayer, but I would not bet on it because the Braves are in control of the wildcard, and they are playing the Phillies this weekend. You all know I love the Phillies, but I know that they will not be sending all of the starters out there every day, so I highly doubt that we can sweep Atlanta as much as I would like to. So, San Diego needs more luck right now than anyone else, but I think that it has run out.

Hot, Hot, Hot

This may very well be the earliest blog post I've ever written. However, that's okay; it will still be hopefully good. I think about the hot weather we are scheduled to have today. However, I also think about the thunderstorms we had last night. It's interesting how quickly the weather can change but neither one of them is good for baseball. Obviously, you can't play in thunder and lightning especially when it is accompanied by torrential downpours. However, they do play through the heat, but I do not know if I could ever do that. On days like this, I bet the Red Sox wish they were the Diamondbacks and could close up to the dome and turn on the air conditioning. Unfortunately, very few places in New England, if any, have domes. It seems to be one of the things that we only need air-conditioning and things like that about a week’s worth of day every year, so no one has it because it is not worth the investment. In theory, this makes sense, but for that one week the weather can be pretty brutal for those of us who are used to our more frigid rest of the year.

Hot and Cold

I think that since today is a federal holiday, maybe it should be a hot weather holiday. However, no such luck. Therefore, I'm sitting in a room full of fans doing nothing particularly intense. It makes me wonder though, how do people ever play baseball in Arizona? I realize that the Diamondbacks have a retractable roof that they probably just close if the sun is too intense. However, how do minor league teams pull this off? Granted, many games are played at night, but they have to do something during the day. I guess there's a reason I was born in Vermont, but still, you don't choose who you get drafted by. Again, I don't have that problem is being drafted, but some people have to have that problem. It's not necessarily that I get dehydrated or anything like that, I just don't know how you can perform to the top of your ability when it is that hot. However, I have also wondered about how on earth you perform in weather conditions like Lambeau Field in the middle of December. I guess I'm just a moderate temperature guy, not too hot or not too cold. In Vermont we have both extremes although much heavier on the cold end of the spectrum. Maybe I need to move to Hawaii; I've heard it's pretty temperate there...

Waiting!

It seems like during the summer when you have a picnic or some other outdoor festivities that the weather refuses to cooperate. You really want to get outside and have fun, but annoying weather holds you back. This is kind of how I feel about power soccer. I don't happen to have a gymnasium in my house unfortunately, and our driveway is situated at a pretty steep downhill angle. Therefore, I have to go practice while waiting for my sister to finish pole vaulting high school. At the time we pick her up, there are very few vehicles left in the large flat lot, so my mom and I get some practice time in. However, as I sit here this morning looking out the window, I'm a bit nervous about the prospect of playing tonight. I have played in the rain before, but I have to be a little bit more careful to make sure that I don't go sliding off on the slippery pavement. Practicing outside has other inherent issues such as much more friction between the ball and pavement than would be present on the nice wooden gym floor we normally practice on as a team. Therefore, I need to hit the ball harder to make it go the same distance as it would indoors. I don't know, I hope I can get outside and play tonight, but I will have to wait for the weather. Don't you hate it when things are beyond your control?
